Dr Coetzee joined the Medi Clinic group at Somerset West in 2009..Previously active and involved in the evolution of Laparoscopic Surgery as a participant and as an educator at Tygerberg Hospital in the Western Cape.
Open Appendectomy
The open Appendectomy was the standard of care before the introduction of laparoscopic surgery. Most patients will qualify for a laparoscopic appendectomy. Some patients may need an open procedure for more advanced disease.
Dr Coetzee will make the final decision regarding the execution of procedure. Some medical insurance companies will not cover the laparoscopic procedure and the patient is required to check with their medical insurance company prior to any surgery.
